FLUENCY TO INFLUENCE: EXPLORING THE ROLE OF ENGLISH IN LEADERSHIP, MANAGEMENT AND GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT

Description

This study examines how ELP influences leadership effectiveness, organization management performance and global development outcomes in multicultural professional environments. Its intention is to provide a conceptual framework to connect the theories of Sociolinguistics and the theories of Organizational Management. The descriptive-correlational quantitative research design was used. The respondents were 250 professionals, selected by stratified random sampling from multinational organizations and answers were obtained through structured questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression were used for data analysis. Results show that ELP has a significant and positive relationship with leadership effectiveness (β = 0.674, p < 0.001), organizational management performance (β = 0.612, p < 0.001), and global development outcomes (β = 0.589, p < 0.001). At the p < 0.001 level of significance, all three suggested hypotheses were accepted. The study has a geographic restriction and is self-report, so there may be social desirability bias. Future studies could use longitudinal study designs to increase causal validity. English-language capacity-building initiatives are an effective means of improving managerial effectiveness and international collaboration, and should be a priority for organizations and policy-makers in emerging markets, especially in the development of leadership pipelines. The results shed light on the role of English as an equalizer and a stratifier in the world of the professions, and on the need for inclusive language policies that reduce the impact of linguistic stratification. This paper presents a new integrative model that investigates ELP in three areas of management and development – a missing interdisciplinary gap between linguistics and organizational studies.
