DIAGNOSTIC OF URBAN FLOODING IN KISUMU: REPORT 2026

Description

This Space4All report map and assess flood exposure in Kisumu, Kenya. Results show that flooding affects 40% of the city. However, exposure is unevenly distributed, highly concentrated in populated deprived districts, including Manyatta, Nyalenda and Kolwa Central. These areas face recurring impacts, including damage to housing, disrupted livelihoods, disease outbreaks, and pressure on critical services. The model assessment indicates that exposure is underestimated in deprived districts, particularly due to limitations in representing dense complex layout and local drainage issues. The reality is likely worse on the group, underscoring the need for citizen engagement and tailored risk reduction strategies, such as infrastructure investment.
