Understanding Hydrology : The Science of Water

Description

Hydrology is science which deals with different phases of the hydrological cycle. This is the branch of geography that studies water in the Earth's system—its distribution, movement, quality, and interactions with the environment and human societies. It examines the hydrological cycle (precipitation, evaporation, transpiration, runoff, infiltration, groundwater flow) and how water shapes landscapes, ecosystems, climate, and human activities. In geography, hydrology bridges physical processes (e.g., river dynamics, floodplain formation) with human dimensions (e.g., water resource management, water policy, societal impacts of floods or droughts), providing a holistic understanding of water's role on Earth's surface.
