This short article proposes the Single-Couplet Method as a micro-reading approach for foreign language teaching. The method is based on the pedagogical use of one carefully selected two-line poetic unit rather than a long literary text. It argues that a single couplet can function as a compact classroom material through which learners practise vocabulary, grammar, cultural interpretation and critical response within a limited lesson time.
The article first explains why short literary forms may be more manageable than extended texts, then presents a three-layer model: lexical, grammatical and interpretive reading. It concludes that the single-couplet approach can make literary language accessible without reducing it to mechanical translation.
