Description

Manufacturing sector is important for the economic growth of Tamil Nadu state. It is worth mentioning that the contribution of the sector in terms of employment generation, industrialization, investments, exports, and growth of GSDP is very significant. In particular, owing to several key sub-sectors, such as automotive manufacturing, textiles, leather, electronics manufacturing, and MSMEs, Tamil Nadu ranks among top industrialized states of India. Within the discussed context, the main aim of this study is to evaluate the growth, performance, and economic contribution of manufacturing sector of Tamil Nadu. As the method of conducting research, descriptive analysis based on secondary data was applied. Particularly, reports on the ASI for the period between 2019-20 and 2023-24, as well as several research articles, provided data needed for the analysis. Such economic indicators as the number of factories, employment, fixed capital, gross output, Gross Value Added (GVA), and Net Value Added (NVA) were used. It can be noted that according to the results of the research, in spite of negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the manufacturing sector of Tamil Nadu, the state managed to recover and grow. However, several challenges, including global competition, technological changes, and lack of skilled labor remain. Therefore, strengthening technological advancement, skill development, and green industrialization is imperative for ensuring the sustainable growth of Tamil Nadu's manufacturing sector.
