Techno-Scientific Strategies to Mitigate Climate Change in Robinson's Forty Signs of Rain: An Ecocritical Analysis

Description

Abstract:

The present paper intends to reflect on the novelist’s insistence on the utilization of science and technology to mitigate global warming. The novelist K.S. Robinson states that eradication of political inertia and social nonchalance can help buttress the growth of scientific community which will further help combat impending environmental problems. The paper aims to analyze the novel through ecocritical lens. The study discusses how techno-scientific interventions along with political will can help resolve ecological issues. The paper also discusses the urgency and indispensability of integrating scientific strategies with governmental policies and societal engagement to protect environment.  This paper also throws light on the various aspects of ecocriticism for instance, animality, ethicality, religion etc.Being a rhizomatic term, ecocriticism embraces several paradigms and disciplines that show environmental concerns. The paper deals with the issue of animality, the term used by Scott Slovic to mean the humans relationship with other animals. The present paper also discusses various scientific terms used by the novelists while mentioning the strategies to mitigate climate change. Ecocriticism, while exploring the relationship between literature and the environment, examines ethical, political, psychological, philosophical, religious and cultural dimensions of the environmental issues.
