A NEWS-TEXT-BASED MODEL FOR DEVELOPING STUDENTS' ENGLISH COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE

Description

This article explores the potential of news texts as an effective pedagogical resource for developing students' communicative competence in English. The study proposes a news-text-based model that integrates authentic language materials into the teaching and learning process. The model is designed to enhance learners' linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic competences through reading, listening, speaking, and writing activities based on current news content. The research highlights the advantages of using authentic news texts, including increased learner motivation, improved language proficiency, enhanced critical thinking skills, and greater awareness of global issues. The proposed model consists of several interconnected stages: selection of appropriate news materials, pre-text activities, text analysis, communicative tasks, and reflective assessment.
