Impact of Social Media on Freedom of Speech (Article 19)

In the present digital era, Social Media plays the most important role in our life and the most famous & easy medium for interaction and for sharing our thoughts, information with other people. There are some famous platforms like X, Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin etc. When we talk about democracy it is directly connected to freedom of speech and expressions. At present time social media is a very famous platform for sharing information anyone with internet access can participate in public discourse. While this has strengthened democratic values such as freedom of speech, it has also raised serious concerns about misinformation, hate speech, and regulation. This paper explores how social media influences freedom of speech particularly in the context of Article 19(1) (a) & Article 19(2) under the Indian constitution, analyzing both its empowering and limiting effects.
