SOCIAL MEDIA: CONNECTION OR ISOLATION

Description

Social media has become an essential part of modern life, transforming the way people communicate, share information, and build relationships. Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and WhatsApp enable users to connect with others instantly across the world. With approximately 4.76 billion users globally, social media has significantly influenced personal, social, and professional interactions. While these platforms help people maintain relationships, access information, and express their opinions, concerns have also been raised about their negative effects. Excessive use of social media can lead to loneliness, social isolation, anxiety, and reduced face-to-face communication. This article examines both the positive and negative impacts of social media and explores whether it truly strengthens human connections or contributes to feelings of isolation. The study concludes that social media can be a powerful tool for communication and connectivity when used responsibly; however, its overuse may negatively affect individuals' social and emotional well-being
