Anchistylis robusta

Description

Anchistylis robusta (Zimmer, 1902)

described as Leptostylis robusta; Zimmer 1902.

Syntypes.

Chile • 5 ♂♂ + 13 ♀♀; Magellanstraße, Punta Arenas [Strait of Magellan, Punta Arenas]; Hamburger Magalhaensische Sammelreise 1892 / 93 exped.; stat. 95; 2 Fd. depth [3.7 m depth]; September 1892; J. Wilhelm Michaelsen leg.; meer, Sandgrund [sea, sandy ground]; ZMH - K- 016063.

Remarks.

Zimmer (1902) did not explicitly designate a holotype or paratypes in the original description; he reported 23 specimens (8 ♂♂ + 15 ♀♀), all of which were recognized as syntypes by Băcescu (1992). Currently, the lot contains only 18 specimens (5 ♂♂ + 13 ♀♀); five specimens are considered lost.

Diagnosis.

Carapace shorter than the combined pedigerous segments, crossed by a pair of lines or ridges which end without meeting near the back of frontal lobe; pseudorostral lobes shortly produced in front of very small eye lobe; anteroventral corners bluntly produced and forming a distinct sinus. Pereonites with frontal margins finely denticulate; pereonites 3 and 4 with 2 ridges on expanded sides parallel to hind margin. Pleonties with 3–6 plumose setae dorsally and with postero-ventral spines; pleonite 5 rather longer than pleonite 6; and pleonite 6 longer than telson. Telson with 2 pairs of lateral spines, the upper very small, and a large apical pair. Antenna 1 with each flagellum tri-articulated (female), principally 5 - jointed (male). Uropod, peduncle as long as pleonite 6 and as the exopod, rather longer than endopod; endopod with 6, 2, 2 spines on the 3 joints respectively (female). Uropod peduncle rather longer; endopod with 12, 4, 3 spines on medial margin; apical spine being continuous with its third article (male) (after Stebbing 1913).

Distribution.

Southeast Pacific and Southwest Atlantic, off Chile and Argentina, 3–5 m depth (Zimmer 1902; Băcescu 1992; Roccatagliata 1997).
