Wet Drought Caused by Excessive Rainfall and its Impact on Indian Agriculture

Description

Drought is one of the major stress factors affecting the growth and development of plants. Wet drought, or "green drought," occurs when excessive, unseasonal rainfall causes waterlogging, soil nutrient leaching, and root asphyxiation, mimicking drought stress despite saturated conditions. In India, this phenomenon destroys crops like cotton, soybeans, and pulses, in intense rainfall and waterlogging break down soil structure, washing away crops and causing "Para-wilt," where plants suddenly die due to root damage. Creases pest or disease risks and causes severe income losses for farmers. The destruction of standing crops causes heavy financial losses, particularly for small and marginal farmers, impacting agricultural GDP.
