Effect of Yoga and Mindfulness Practices on Stress and Academic Performance among College Students: A Physical Education Perspective

Description

Stress experienced by college students is increasingly being recognized as a factor that influences both psychological well-being and academic achievement. The present study adopts a systematic review approach with statistical synthesis to examine the effectiveness of yoga and mindfulness practices in managing stress and improving academic performance. A total of 18 empirical studies were selected using PRISMA-based criteria.

The findings indicate that participation in yoga and mindfulness interventions is associated with a reduction of approximately 22–30% in perceived stress levels (p < 0.05). In addition, improvements ranging from 5% to 12% were observed in academic performance indicators. These outcomes appear to be linked with better attention, enhanced memory retention, and improved emotional regulation.

The results underline the importance of incorporating structured yoga and mindfulness practices within physical education programs to support balanced and holistic student development
