The exponential growth of social media in the 21st century has brought about profound changes in communication patterns across the globe. In a multilingual country like India, where English functions as a second language and a vital link language, social media has played a decisive role in reshaping linguistic practices. Platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter (X) have transformed not only how English is used but also how it is learned, adapted, and perceived by Indian users, particularly the youth. This research paper examines the impact of social media on the English language in India by analyzing recent trends, linguistic changes, code-mixing, vocabulary expansion, influence on grammar and writing skills, and implications for education and culture. The study highlights that social media has contributed to the evolution of a more localized, flexible, and expressive form of English rather than causing its decline. The paper concludes that social media has made English more accessible and participatory while simultaneously posing challenges for maintaining academic and formal language standards.
